Do you pay tax on clipping earnings?

Shoot pays you gross. No tax is withheld from your earnings or your withdrawals, which means whatever you owe is yours to declare and pay where you live.

This isn't tax advice

Tax rules differ enormously by country and by personal circumstance, and we're not qualified to advise on yours. Treat this as a prompt to check properly — with your local tax authority or an accountant — rather than as an answer.

The general picture

In most jurisdictions, money you earn from posting clips is treated as self-employment or business income rather than as a gift or a prize. That usually means it's declarable, it may push you over a registration threshold, and in some countries it carries social-security or self-employment contributions on top of income tax.

Some countries have a small trading or hobby allowance below which you don't need to register. Whether you're under it depends on your total income from all such sources, not just Shoot.

What Shoot does and doesn't do

Withhold tax
No. Payouts are gross — nothing is deducted for tax at any point.
Charge fees
Yes, and these are separate from tax: a 7% platform fee at withdrawal plus the payout provider's transaction cost, both itemised on your quote.
File on your behalf
No. Declaring your income is your responsibility.
Give tax advice
No — support can't answer tax questions, and shouldn't.

Keep your own records

The single most useful habit is recording what you were paid and when, as you go. Your withdrawal history is the cleanest source: it shows each amount, its date and the fees taken. Save it periodically rather than trying to reconstruct a year at the end of one.

  • Note the date and amount of every withdrawal, and the fees deducted.
  • Keep the fee breakdown — in many places platform and transfer fees are deductible business expenses.
  • If you earn in more than one currency, record the amount in the currency you received and the rate on the day.
  • Set money aside as you earn rather than at the deadline.

Frequently asked

Does Shoot withhold tax from my earnings?+

No. Payouts are gross and nothing is deducted for tax, so anything you owe is yours to declare and pay where you live.

Will I get a tax form from Shoot?+

Shoot doesn't issue tax forms. Your withdrawal history is the record to work from — it shows each payout, its date, and the fees taken. If you need something specific for a filing, contact support and ask.

Do I need to declare it if I only earned a small amount?+

That depends entirely on where you live — some countries have a small trading or hobby allowance and others don't. Check your local threshold rather than assuming a small amount is exempt.

Are Shoot's fees tax-deductible?+

In many places platform and transaction fees count as business expenses, but this varies by country and by how you're registered. Ask an accountant, and keep the fee breakdown from your withdrawals either way.
